A successful “blue bioeconomy” session at virtual SPPS PhD Student Conference 2020

Congratulations to young researchers on organizing and attending  the virtual 11th Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society PhD Student Conference. 

A succesfull   ” Blue Bioeconomy” session was carried out on the last day of the virtual conference, 4th September. Firstly thanks go to session chair Olli Virtanen, Ph.D student from UTU for the smooth moderation and Prof. Maria Barbosa for enlightening all attendees on “the role of algae in blue bioeconomy” as a keynote speech!

It was a pleasure to hear about the NordAqua young researchers on-going studies from different partner organizations ( SINTEF, Umeå University, VTT and UTU) under the NordAqua umbrealla and also seeing the wide research topics on macro & microalgae research towards boosting blue bioeconomy ín Nordic countries.

The talks are now availabe on the conference platform under ”Session Recordings” until 17th Sep! So, make yourself comfortable and watch your favourite talks again!


SPPS PhD Student Conference 2020 on live stream: 2-4 September

We are ready for our first online conference experience! 4th of September NordAqua will organise the BLUE BIOECONOMY session within the SPPS PhD Student Conference. The keynote speaker of the session is Professor Maria Barbosa, Director of AlgaePARC! Several NordAqua students will give oral presentation in “Blue Bioeconomy”, “Plants & their environment” and “Photosynthesis” sessions!

Poster session is an integral part of the programme and posters now have been published on the conference platform. You will be able to find some NordAqua research activities also in the poster session. You are able to access the posters via the email sent by the organizing committe. Poster abstract submission deadline: 17 August 2020!

Please be informed that the abstract submission deadline for oral presentation is extended to 14 July 2020 for the SPPS PhD Student Conference.

4 oral presentations are outlined for the blue bieconomy session and registration fees of the chosen presentations for the bluebioeconomy session will be sponsored by NordAqua.

Online SPPS PhD Student Conference 2020 & details regarding the Blue Bioeconomy session

We are happy to announce that the 11th Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society PhD Student Conference will be held on 2nd-4th of September 2020 as an online conference. The theme of the conference is “From Basics to Bioeconomy” and aims to gather young scientists from the Nordic countries. For further info please visit: https://sppsphd2020.fi/

We teamed up with the organizing committee of conference and decided to organize a session called “ Blue Bioeconomy” in collaboration with NordAqua. We are happy to inform that the invited speaker of the Blue Bioeconomy session is Professor Maria Barbosa, Director of AlgaePARC, Netherlands (http://www.algaeparc.com ), a large multidisciplinary research program which integrates the entire microalgae and cyanobacteria process chain.

4 oral presentations are outlined for the Blue Bioeconomy session and registration fees of the chosen presentations for the Blue Bioeconomy session will be sponsored by NordAqua.

Please note that abstract submission is open and the deadline for submitting abstracts for oral presentation is untill  7 July 2020.Notification of accepted oral presentations is 24 July 2020.

SPPS PhD Student Conference 2020 will be moved online!

The coronavirus pandemic has affected everyone’s lives and unfortunately our conference is no exception.

In the light of the current situation, we have decided to move the conference online. We are currently working on figuring out the best way to arrange the conference in this new format and will keep you updated about the progress here and on our Twitter (@sppsphd) and Instagram (@spps_phD).

Welcome to the 11th Scandinavian Plant Physiology Society PhD Student Conference!

The SPPS PhD Student Conference 2020 will take place 2-4 September in the beautiful Ruissalo island (Turku, Finland) to talk science, network and enjoy the stunning nature.

With the theme “From Basics to Bioeconomy” the conference aims to cover a broad range of topics from basic plant/algal science to their applications in a more sustainable economy and bring together young scientists from the Nordic countries with the upcoming top names in the field.

NordAqua promotes the “Blue Bioeconomy” session of the conference. We are pleased to announce the invited speaker of the session will be Maria Barbosa from Wageningen University, Netherlands.
